One More Chapter, an imprint of HarperCollins, has signed a two-book deal with University of Hull lecturer Caroline Cauchi, which includes her upcoming novel, The Woman Who Went Over Niagara Falls in a Barrel. Publisher Charlotte Ledger secured the world all-language rights directly from Cauchi, and the book will be released as Queen of the Mist in North America.
The first book in the deal, Mrs Van Gogh, was a bestseller in Canada’s Globe and Mail. This second book is anticipated to be “another trailblazing novel that highlights the stories of forgotten women in history.”
The Woman Who Went Over Niagara Falls in a Barrel draws inspiration from the life of Annie Edson Taylor, a former teacher from Buffalo, New York. Set in 1901, the story unfolds at a time of significant change, just as Queen Victoria’s era ends. The synopsis describes Taylor as a courageous widow determined to make history as the first person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel, long before any male daredevil attempted the feat. The narrative delves into themes of lost wealth, friendship, and a woman’s daring attempt to defy societal norms and reshape the future.
Cauchi, an internationally bestselling author, focuses on reimagining the narratives of women erased from history. Currently based in the UK, she teaches Creative Writing at the University of Hull. She expressed her excitement about collaborating again with Ledger and the One More Chapter team, sharing that Taylor’s bravery is a source of inspiration and that she looks forward to readers discovering her story.
